What to use for book board?

0

I have acquired a very abused, seemingly old copy of Robin Hood. A garage sale “treasure”, the text block is in tact but the cover has seen (hopefully) better days. The book has no indication of author, publisher, dates. The front cover is worn BUT could be carefully removed and attached/glued to a new cover. I’d like to “recover” it, pun intended. I have book cloth, and other tools but am finding it difficult to understand and find appropriate “boards.” Where can I go to understand board types, or what might you recommend – item as well as a source. thanks for your time.

Hi there,

Can you include a photo please? I am not sure why it needs a new board which is pretty drastic.

To buy binders board you can approach your local print shop or go through www.talasonline.com or other bookbinding supply places. You may want something like .80 but you will have to measure to match the other board.

OK, so maybe the existing boards could be saved. Corners are bumped pretty much in several cases but should be repairable. The bigger question then is "how to remove the existing cover" or "does one cover what's there?"  Even though it is pretty beat up, I want to save the cover for reuse. No writing on spine so nothing there to care about. And the second pic is actually a split of end paper from the text block. That first page of the text block is a COLOR plate facing the title page. Mull is mostly pulled loose, spine easy enough to finish cleaning. As an aside, the dedication on front end paper is Christmas of 1929.
