what to do when coverboards start crumbling

0

What do I need to do with a crumbling coverboard? It’s not just corner splitting, which I can glue back together, but splitting under the fabric along the spine and crumbling along the edges. Is there a way to salvage the full piece cover art in this situation?

I am not entirely sure what coverboard is. I am guessing it is regular old binders board. It is possible to remove the boards from the cover material (cloth or leather) and replace them entirely  sometimes but it depends on how the cover material is holding up. You can also repair the crumbling edges if there is solid material beyond the crumbling parts by splitting the board open and inserting a bit of bristol board and filling in with  blotter paper or similar.

I hope that helps!
