Removing old liner under pastedown

0

Pictures show that both pastedowns at hinge have been lifted and old remnants of text spine liner being removed. One side is pretty much cleared, but the second side still needs attention. This is basically mull with a layer of paper over it. The “car accident” just plain tore both sides loose right at the hinge. To clean the first side used warm water with repair knife scraping, paste with scraping, glue with scraping and even a cleaning gel left on under pressure overnight, before scraping. All helped a bit, but the Nori paste seemed to loosen things the most. Any other thoughts? Thanks.

Using warm water sounds frightening to me but on modern materials it can be ok. It looks like you have a good handle on it!
