Pages wet by Ethyl Alcohol need restoring

0

Hello. I am from the Philippines. Just today, my book was wet by ethyl alcohol and caused discoloration that includes both ink and marks of the wet by alcohol. I do like to ask for your advice on what I can do to fix the pages. The book is a third edition of an original from the 1970s, printed in 1974. Hoping for your kind help because this was a gift from a close friend. Thank you so much and may God bless you and may the subject of the book, who is a saint, pray for you always.

Unfortunately, when color has moved deeply into the paper fibers it is impossible to get it out without dis-binding and washing the pages. You could try some sanding on the edges to get rid of whatever is on the surface. Adding any bleaching agent is to be discouraged because it would stay in the paper and cause acidic deterioration. Best luck with this book.
