| ♥ 0 | Hi I have a leather spine that has come off (with help during repair process) and Klucel-G is new to me (as yet have not purchased the product) the spine is showing signs of red rot I plan to replace the spine back onto the book when the loose signatures have been re-secured and add either new leather or coloured book cloth/buckram underneath for strength (and because the spine is not entirely intact (arrived to me that way) anyway back to the Klucel – G can I apply it to the side of the leather that will be pasted back to the spine? or will the paste do some of the consolidation for me? and only the tooled side needs the Klucel? sorry had some pictures but can’t find them

| Private answer Hi Sam, The way to think of Klucel is that it provides a protective coating and what it protects from especially is moisture. So if you plan to apply any moisture such as glue, then a coating or two of klucel (light coats, let dry between) will help keep the moisture at bay. One or two coats on the front to consolidate will be good too. All this depends on what your particular leather is. Some leather will not benefit from Klucel at all. A very small selection will be damaged with a color change so TEST first!
