How to un-soak pages being cleaned

Videos on You Tube, the seven part Fairy Tales Live Restoration. Part 2, towards the end, shows pages that have been soaking in water being removed and blotted/dried. At approximately 45:00 into the video, it shows the activity. Two questions: (1) Could you be more specific regarding what exactly you are using for “polytex”, I believe, as that is a very generic, wide reaching term for various materials and substances. Sheets and/or rolls, source, other uses or just for this? (2) The activity or discussion also shows using blotting paper. Again, is there a reason for that specifically or simply some (non-textured) absorbent material?

The spun polyester fabric is called Hollytex ( but you can use any such material like Reemay. The main thing is keeping the page from sticking to the blotter paper. You may have missed some of the adhesive in the washing.
