♥ 0 | My mother found out I was taking these courses and brought me the family bible… -_-; It is a sad, sad book. There was nothing left of the cover but some sad, little chunks. I had to throw it away. The only reason it has all of its pages is that it had been kept in a ziplock for… a very long time. I know it’s going to be a long-haul project to get it back into one piece, but I can’t exactly tell her “no.” (What have I gotten myself into this time…?) So how do you recase a book with no cover to put it back into? I guess I’m basically rebinding it, aren’t I? Do you have to use book cloth specifically for a new cover? Can you use any other type of fabric? I don’t have the equipment to stamp any kind of lettering into the cover, but I’m really good at embroidery. Would it be possible to embroider the cloth going onto the book or would that just not work at all? Do you have to specifically use book board or could I harvest the carboard out of a three-ring binder (looking for cheaper options)? What about the gold edges of the paper? Can you use the same type of paint marker that you used in your gold lettering touch-up lesson on the page edges? Marked as spam |
Private answer Hi Sarah, This is indeed a new binding and that has not been my focus in these classes. I am going to recommend you take a look at https://www.ibookbinding.com/ for more information on bookbinding. I do not recommend using markers of any sort on book edges because it tends to soak into the pages. A gold colored pencil might do the trick. Post some photos of the edge. You can salvage board from a three ring binder! I love the embroidery idea. You can turn any cloth into book-cloth You can use an iron on fusible fabric stiffener from your local fabric store.

Private answer Sorry. I apparently failed to post anything last time. Not sure how that happened. Let's see if this works. I'm having issues getting the other two pictures to upload. Not sure if post with the other two went up or not. Marked as spam | |
Private answer I'm having technical difficulties. Here's the last two. Marked as spam |
