How to do an Advanced Bible Repair and Re-back.
This is an advanced Bible repair mostly because things went wrong and I had to fix them. Because it is not very straightforward I can’t recommend this as a video for beginners but I do think it is interesting to see how I work out what to do when things go wrong with a repair. The main problem was that the text-block somehow wound up as bigger than the cover but this wasn’t obvious at first because the spine had collapsed in on itself. I think the end-product came out great and you get to learn from my mistakes!
Some of the steps include:
- Using Klucel-G on the leather to protect it
- Using shoe polish to affect the coloring of the Bible
- Re-attach a loose signature by sewing it through the new mull on the spine

- PERPETUAL CAVEAT: Never repair rare and/or scarce books. When in doubt only do preservation treatments and consult an accredited professional.
